wedding dinner and cocktail hour playlist

steve and i were unbelievably lucky to have such fantastic music at our wedding and to have such wonderful people involved.  our DJ, todd brown, of kalamazoo's mobile music entertainment did an absolutely phenomenal job with both our ceremony and our reception.  he was an excellent MC, he saved our ceremony rehearsal, and he worked with our band extremely well, i cannot recommend his work highly enough.

on top of all this he also flattered me immensely by complimenting my taste in some of the music he had never heard before.  i have to admit, music was a huge priority for me, having spent tireless amounts of time (shh over the years) planning my wedding playlist.  we wanted to keep it classic, but still nicely unique.  but now that we're married y'all can enjoy it all the time!  the playlist is on spotify:

happy friday!!!!

a little music

i'm over winter.

not just winter of 2013/2014... i'm pretty much over the general concept.  persistent subzero windchills have me feeling immensely trapped in front of screens lately.  one of the good things to come out of this, however, has been a discovery of some enjoyable new bands, in addition to my inaugural viewing of the movie spaceballs.

to spread the warmth a little, i've put together a mini-mix for you guys to download and enjoy while we all do our best to fight off the winter blues.

(note: be sure to select the link that says "click here to start download from sendspace," other buttons are spam).

tracklist in no particular order:
beta radio - either way
peasant - a little one
the oh hellos - hello my old heart
kopecky family band - heartbeat
weinland - people like you

mini-mix download

this was my dorm room sophomore year of college circa 2009 hahahahaha
we've finally gotten some nice weather around these parts again!  (ok well, not really nice weather... kind of a damp swampy 90 degrees, but i'm just thankful for a bit of heat since this summer has been colder than i like.  i really don't know what we're doing up so far north these days.)

otherwise we are just trying to catch our breath for a moment and finish putting away all the crap in boxes before ann arbor wakes up for football season.

i hope i get a chance to blog a bit more about all the madness happening around here down the road a bit, but for now here's a mini-mix you are welcome to download, with love from me:

filthy gorgeous - scissor sisters
island song - ashley ericksson
les os - the unicorns

music for summertime & a little extra

2009
here's a look at what i've been listening to lately.  as far as i'm concerned, summer wouldn't be summer if it didn't have its own personal playlist.

when the link takes you through, be sure to click the one that says "click here to start download from sendspace" because other buttons are spam:

bombay - el guincho
i could be dreaming - belle & sebastian
oh no! - marina and the diamonds
here comes your man -the pixies
kick you out - caesars
from a window seat - dawes
daffodils - charlene soraia
isjaki - sigur ros

what are you guys listening to this summer?

i've been putting photos and side projects on the back burner lately because i'm really pleased with how well things are going with the creative piece of fiction i am writing, and it's keeping me pretty busy.  i've hit the 20 page / 5,000 word mark, which is an early milestone, but an exciting one nonetheless.
and also:  today and tomorrow are the last 2 days to enter my giveaway!

instagram dump and a little extra

yesterday was officially steve's last day of college, which means we are now going head first into a whole new chapter... and we couldn't be more excited!!

the weather has FINALLY been warming up around here too (though the day i wore that shirtdress it ended up snowing and i had to change into something warmer on my lunch break... you can't really trust the weather around here until mid to late june).

right now we are playing chicken with this move to chicago because steve is currently competing in a staring contest with another company and we're daring them to make him an offer he can't refuse.  if they do we'll be stuck in michigan for at least another year (boo) but there would be some pretty excellent factors that would definitely make it worth our while (some logistical details i'll tell you about later and y'know top notch health insurance and dollah dollah bills).

suffice it to say we're totally looking forward to whatever we're doing... even though we STILL aren't positive what exactly that is.

for now i'm just going to soak up the longest stretch of sunlight we've had since october, the very temporary free time steve actually has for the first time in years, and keep rocking out to this song because, frankly, it makes me feel like a total badass.

p.s. if anyone knew how many selfies i take at work i would get made fun of so much.

road trip mix tape

as promised i have a mix for you to listen along with steve and i while we power drive nearly 900 miles this saturday.  sadly the forecast is starting to look colder than i am excited to see, but we will forge on and if all else fails at least we can rock out in the car and nom our sandwiches and gushers.  i love to drive, we've got champagne, and we're staying someplace really swanky so i'm pretty sure we'll survive the 54 degree weather!  Download the mix here.

do you like excellent music?

if you like excellent music, today is your lucky day.

when my sister was in high school she dated the most ultimate super extra hipster guy who introduced me to the likes of radiohead, pinback, neutral milk hotel, and one of my forever favorite bands belle & sebastian.

since those days long gone (i'm pretty sure i was in eighth grade at the time?) i have become a devout indie music snob guru, and i really owe it to david.

i crossed out snob because i'm pretty sure you can't be an indie music snob and like nicki minaj as much as i am ashamed to admit i do.  i've also noticed that working a full time job really cuts in to the time you can spend hunting down obscure music, so i've been digging on a lot of familiar oldies lately.

i have always loved making music mixes, so for any of the few readers of this blog who are interested, i would love to share a little of what i've been listening to most lately.   it is available to download here.
